Single Vehicle Traffic Crash on Astrozon Boulevard Leads to DUI Arrest of Female Driver in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (December 3, 2025) – A female driver was involved in a single-vehicle traffic collision on the 4200 block of houses on Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs police officers were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. There were two people inside of the vehicle.
The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle, but she was allegedly non-compliant. After a brief struggle, the subject allegedly kicked that officer.
She has since been charged with DUI and assaulting a police officer. According to police records, she’s being held at the El Paso County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Liability for Colorado Springs DUI Accidents
Under Colorado law, drivers are forbidden from operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes § 42-4-1301(2)(a), “A person who drives a motor vehicle or vehicle under the influence of alcohol or one or more drugs, or a combination of both alcohol and one or more drugs, commits driving under the influence. Driving under the influence is a misdemeanor, but it is a class 4 felony if the violation occurred after three or more prior convictions.” Drivers will often make a number of common mistakes if they are suspected of DUI.
- Admitting to Drinking: Admitting to having any amount of alcohol will give officers further reason to expand their investigation. You have a constitutional right to remain silent and avoid answering any questions that could be incriminating.
- Agreeing to Roadside Sobriety Tests: Under Colorado Law, Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) are voluntary. Many drivers think that they are required to take these tests, but this is not true. These tests can make even sober people look intoxicated. Poor performance could be used to justify an arrest.
- Failing to Disclose Medical Conditions: Many people have medical conditions that could affect their balance or eyes. Police officers could interpret these symptoms as signs of impairment if a person fails to disclose medical conditions.
After being arrested for DUI or another criminal charge, it is best to remain calm. But far too often this does not happen. People may believe that they can “explain themselves” out of being arrested. This tends to do much more harm than good. Making poor choices after being arrested on suspicion of DUI can quickly spiral into much more serious criminal charges. If you are unsure where to begin after any arrest, the smartest step that you can take is to speak with an experienced Colorado criminal defense attorney.
Legal Consequences for DUI in Colorado
Being arrested and convicted of DUI can have serious and lasting consequences for a person’s future. These consequences can be enhanced if a collision results in bodily injury. Having multiple prior DUI convictions can also enhance penalties. What follows are some of the legal consequences that drivers may face in the state of Colorado.
- License Revocation: A DUI offense can lead to a driver having their license revoked anywhere from nine months to two years.
- Probation: A DUI offense can lead to probation anywhere between 2 and 4 years.
- Fines: A DUI offense can result in fines anywhere between $600 and $1500.
- Jail: A DUI offense can lead to a jail term of anywhere between 5 days and 1 year.
Of course, not all of the consequences for a DUI conviction are purely legal. Drivers routinely face increased insurance premiums after being convicted of DUI in Colorado. A criminal conviction can also severely limit a person’s ability to become gainfully employed. Family courts will also take DUIs into consideration when determining custody issues. It is therefore imperative for any person charged with a DUI to consider their options with an experienced Colorado DUI lawyer.
